La Casa Sena History
Located just one block from the Santa Fe Plaza, La Casa Sena occupies one of the city’s oldest surviving hacienda-style adobe properties. The land dates back to the late 1600s and later became home to the prominent Sena family, who expanded the residence into a 33-room hacienda in 1868. For generations, the Sena home was known for hospitality, celebrations, music, and regional cuisine. Guests included notable figures such as Kit Carson, and the property even temporarily housed the New Mexico legislature after the original capitol burned in 1892. Over the years, the historic building also served as shops, offices, and even workspace connected to the Manhattan Project. In 1983, La Casa Sena opened as a restaurant, bringing food and gathering back to the historic property. After a temporary closure in 2024, renowned restaurateur Andy Barnes and his team revitalized La Casa Sena, blending its remarkable history with a fresh approach to dining and hospitality. Today, the courtyard and adobe walls once again welcome guests to experience one of Santa Fe’s most distinctive dining destinations.
